Germany SICK Ultrasonic Sensors UM30 series UM30-214113 Product Details:

Ultrasonic Sensors UM30 --General problem solving method

The sensors of the UM30 product series impress with their high reliability. With different scanning ranges of up to 8,000 mm and a wide range of parameter setting options, all applications can be handled. The high measuring accuracy due to the integrated temperature compensation, the color-independent object detection, the high resistance to dirt and the high operating temperature range of up to +70 °C ensure reliable operation – even under demanding conditions.

Benefits

Compact design facilitates equipment integration

Flexible matching to application requirements through various parameter setting methods and adjustable sensitivity

Synchronous and multi-channel working mode can avoid mutual influence of sensors and ensure reliable measurement results

Low-cost area monitoring through sensor synchronization

Offline sensor parameter setting via display can be pre-configured and saves time in device commissioning

Built-in temperature compensation for high measurement accuracy

ObSB mode detects all objects between the sensor and the taught background

Features
Reliable measurement regardless of material color, transparency, gloss and ambient light

Scanning range up to 8,000 mm

Display enables fast and flexible sensor adjustment

Strong resistance to dirt, dust, moisture and fog

Various interfaces available including IO-Link

Adjustable sensitivity

Advantage

Virtually unlimited applications possible – regardless of color, gloss or transparency

In a variety of different applications, ultrasonic sensors from SICK measure and detect colored, shiny or transparent surfaces, which is a demanding challenge especially for optical sensors. Even unfavorable environmental conditions such as dust, dirt or fog have little influence on the measurement results. In addition, the detection range is wide, so only one sensor is needed to monitor a large area, and the measuring range is as high as 13 mm to 8 m. No matter which industry, you can see ultrasonic sensors from SICK. The complete product portfolio provides you with a rich variety of application solutions. Looking forward to your personal experience!

(Sound wave) time-of-flight measurement

The sensor emits a sound pulse which is reflected by the object to be detected. The time required for the pulse to travel from the sensor to the object and back again is measured, analyzed and converted into distance as follows .

Distance = speed of sound x total sound wave flight time (t2) / 2

Ultrasonic sensor trigger sensing distance

A general rule applies to ultrasonic sensors: The less the sound waves are absorbed by the object to be measured, the greater the achievable triggering sensing distance. The operating range specifies the maximum distance at which normal objects can be measured with sufficient operating reserve. Under ideal conditions, the sensor can be used up to its range limit. The control area is used for an ideal assessment of the application capabilities. The dark blue area shown in this control area shows the operating range of the sensor when detecting a round bar as an example. The light blue area shows the maximum achievable detection range (range limit) for detecting easily recognizable objects under ideal conditions, in this case an aligned plate. This area between the sensor and the object to be measured should be left free to avoid unintentional detection of objects in the environment. The detectability and detection range of an object depend on its reflection properties, size and orientation. Depending on the application, the sensor can also detect very small objects, such as wires.

Application Focus

Ultrasonic sensors are real all-rounders. Whether for position detection, distance measurement or detection of solid, powdery or liquid media: ultrasonic sensors from SICK prove themselves with reliability and precision in almost any field of application. Whatever the industry, whatever the application.

Ultrasonic sensors from SICK demonstrate their strengths in contactless object detection in all possible applications. These all-rounders reliably and precisely master all requirements for process automation.

Individually configurable sound beams – the ideal solution for your application and the market

By adjusting the sensor sensitivity, you can directly change the sound beam characteristics and thus the sensor's detection range. Objects in the environment can thus be infinitely visible or invisible.

Whether the beam is short or long, narrow or wide, whether the detection range is expanded slowly or the maximum range is used from the start of the measurement. This makes it possible, for example, to conceal tank walls in level applications, check different container sizes in empty shipping bag detection or monitor larger areas with just one sensor.

The individual, infinitely adjustable detection range provides the ideal solution for your application. If ambient conditions change, the sensor can be quickly and smoothly adapted to the new requirements. With the help of the Connect+ software or the SOPAS engineering tool from SICK, the configuration options are almost unlimited.

IO-Link

As a co-creator of IO-Link, SICK has the broadest IO-Link portfolio on the market. Smart Sensors with IO-Link generate and receive data and information that goes far beyond conventional switching signals or measured process parameters.

Your benefits at a glance

l Sensors can be integrated into the fieldbus level to achieve continuous communication and improve equipment productivity

l Easy replacement of equipment and automatic parameter setting to improve machine availability

l Signal transmission without interference, improving equipment reliability

l Automatically set sensors according to production processes to improve application flexibility

l Small wiring workload, use of unshielded cables, reducing project costs

l Visualization on the computer can clearly display the sensor functions and realize the ideal application solution

l Various diagnostic options, such as reduced signal strength, to avoid downtime or enable planning

Automated electronic parts lists with device IDs to simplify documentation and reduce associated workload

By seamlessly integrating sensors into automation networks, IO-Link solves the “last meter” problem. This opens up new ways for you to increase flexibility, reliability and efficiency, thereby reducing the cost of your equipment.
