The first programmable 2D LiDAR laser scanner TiM-P enables very individual solutions.

How LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology works in TiM

The 2D LiDAR laser scanner TiM uses advanced light time-of-flight measurement technology to scan the surrounding environment, i.e. Time-of-Flight technology (TOF). Laser pulses are emitted through a rotating mirror and detected after reflection. The longer the laser pulse takes before reaching the sensor again, the farther the detected object is. Combined with the input signal strength, objects in space can be located at the millimeter level. TiM updates the image of the environment up to 15 times per second to achieve real-time positioning, navigation and control.

Large working range

The 2D LiDAR laser scanner TiM can be used to monitor working areas of varying sizes. Versions are available with a scanning range of up to 25 m, an angular resolution of up to 0.33° and a beam angle of up to 270°.

Wide range of applications

Whether simple "object in area" detection or precise output of measured data for scanned areas - the TiM product portfolio offers the right sensor for many requirements.

Optimize costs

The extensive product portfolio offers tailor-made solutions depending on the task and available budget. The result: high cost-effectiveness in all applications.

Always efficient in every situation: The 2D LiDAR laser scanner TiM provides an accurate data basis for different applications. Thanks to the extensive product portfolio, the solution can be adapted to local requirements at a low cost.

Double assurance through area assessment and measurement data output

The 2D LiDAR laser scanners TiM differ not only in their performance range, but also in the applications integrated into them. The TiM1xx and TiM3xx offer pure area evaluation, while the TiM2xx and TiM5xx provide output of measured data. The TiM7xx combines both in one device and is therefore very flexible in use.

Flexible regional assessment

TiM1xx, TiM3xx and TiM7xx detect the presence of objects in predefined areas. 16 area sets with 3 preconfigured areas each allow for quick and easy adjustment during operation. For even greater process reliability, individual area geometries or reference contour areas can also be defined for static contour monitoring. Digital filters, blanking sizes and response times can be defined so that the sensor is not affected by reflections and scattering from raindrops, snow or dust.

Accurate measurement data output

TiM2xx, TiM5xx and TiM7xx are designed for measuring data streaming and are therefore suitable for many different applications. In addition to distance data, the sensors also output angle data and received signal strength indicator (RSSI = Received Signal Strength Indicator). These data can be used for navigation and collision avoidance of autonomous mobile robots (AMR) in dynamic environments.

HDDM and HDDM+ Technology

The pulse data from the laser sensor is processed using either HDDM- or HDDM+ technology. The two methods differ in the type of data analysis. The HDDM+ method is particularly suitable for processing edge recognition, which is very advantageous for positioning and collision avoidance applications in changing environments. In contrast, the HDDM- method achieves very high measurement accuracy over short distances and is therefore suitable for accurate positioning in transport applications.

Protection and positioning of service robots

In hotels, restaurants and supermarkets, as well as in logistics centers and production halls, service robots are taking on more and more specific tasks. They clean and disinfect, serve and communicate, thus relieving the burden on staff. TiM provides positioning and prevents collisions with people, the surroundings or other mobile robots.

Autonomous mobile robots (AMR) Navigation

Freely navigable shuttle systems and autonomous mobile robot systems are used for the storage, transfer and sorting of materials. Their exact position and surroundings must always be known in order to allow them to move safely within the space. TiM provides measurement data that can be used for collision avoidance or simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM). Area assessment and the streaming of measurement data thus form the technical basis for intelligent safety.

Application Focus

With the 2D LiDAR laser scanner TiM, virtually all stationary and mobile applications in all industries can be realized. Moisture, dust, movement, ambient light and other limiting factors have no effect on the sensor.

Kill two birds with one stone: TiM offers different application possibilities for specific areas of work through area evaluation and output of measured data and ensures greater process reliability and performance in the application.

Rugged housing combined with powerful design

The 2D LiDAR laser scanner TiM is not susceptible to vibrations and shocks. Neither dust nor moisture can penetrate the housing. If the sensor has to withstand particularly high loads and harsh conditions, the resistance can be further increased, for example by using a vibration-damping mount or a protective plate. The compact sensor delivers reliable data even when faced with varying object surfaces and strong ambient light. Up to 80,000 Lux is no problem for the integrated measuring method. This ensures a consistently high measurement quality with only very small fluctuations, thus preventing faults and ensuring a stable and smooth process.

durable

The rugged housing with high IP67 protection rating ensures reliability in harsh conditions and can be used in both indoor and outdoor areas.

Lightweight

TiM is the lightweight version of the laser scanner sensor, weighing only 90 g to 250 g, depending on the type. Combined with the compact housing design, it can be easily integrated into mobile applications.

low cost

A typical power consumption of up to 4 W ensures low power consumption and efficient and sustainable operation, making the TiM ideally suited for battery-powered applications in the AGV sector.

Powerful performance

Depending on the model, the digital data is transmitted via fast Ethernet or IO-Link interfaces, and parameterization can also be done conveniently via the USB port.

Small and powerful: with The 2D LiDAR laser scanner TiM allows powerful area evaluation and measurement data output to be easily integrated into mobile applications and is also easy to integrate in confined spaces.

Always easy to integrate

A wide range of accessories enables the TiM to realize its full potential in a wide range of applications. The sensor can be equipped for demanding applications to ensure quality of measurement data, even in environments with strong vibrations or permanent moisture. Advantage
what is LiDAR?

LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is a technology that uses lasers to aim at objects and measures the time it takes for the reflected light to hit a receiver again. As a result, laser scanner sensors are able to generate 3D or 2D images with spatial and depth data for detecting, measuring, locating and tracking objects.

LiDAR technology has revolutionized automation in many industries, from the automotive industry to logistics and warehousing to aerospace. In industrial environments such as factories and warehouses, laser scanner sensors with a real-time detection range of up to 360° are used to detect obstacles. In transport vehicles, for example, these systems identify distances and prevent collisions with people, objects or other vehicles. Laser scanner sensors installed in robotic arms or manually operated forklifts ensure greater efficiency, measurement accuracy and safety by simplifying and optimizing the handling, transportation, loading, unloading and storage of materials.

SICK already carried out pioneering work in the field of LiDAR technology in the 1980s and has revolutionized its industrial applications over the past decades. Today, the company's innovative sensor technology is helping to shape the world of tomorrow.

2D LiDAR Sensors

All 2D laser scanner sensors work with only one scanning plane and measure distances and angles. Their measurement data enables highly accurate navigation and object recognition regardless of lighting conditions indoors and outdoors. This type of laser scanner provides an affordable solution for environmental monitoring in a wide range of applications - especially in industrial environments.

3D LiDAR Sensors

3D LiDAR laser scanners add another dimension to the scan plane, providing measurement data in a total of three dimensions. The collected measurement data digitally maps the real world and can therefore detect objects in three dimensions, even in adverse weather conditions and in uncertain environments. 3D LiDAR laser scanners are the ideal solution for numerous applications, even under difficult conditions – from people counting at airports to automated vehicle guidance, high-precision position determination and collision avoidance, for example in ports, logistics centers and factories.

Whether it is two-dimensional or three-dimensional—— Laser scanner sensors from SICK help machines to recognize their surroundings and react accordingly with reliable, powerful and proven technology.

2D LiDAR laser scanners from SICK cover a wide range of indoor and outdoor applications, even in adverse weather conditions. In ports, they prevent collisions with cranes and containers. In logistics, they are used for palletizing and depalletizing by mobile robots, as well as for collision avoidance, to detect overhanging objects in factories or obstacles and people in the path of autonomous delivery robots. In addition, they are used to monitor speed and height limits in road traffic or for gate and security gate systems at airports. They detect unauthorized access in countless buildings.
