Germany Leuze diffuse reflection photoelectric sensor background suppression scanner DRT25C.3/L6-M8 Product Details:
Dynamic Reference Sensor
Object-independent detection with a detection range of up to 450 mm by teaching the background, and optimal adjustment to the ambient conditions via different teach levels.
The DRT 25C is an all-rounder.
Reliable detection.
No readjustment is required when changing the object being detected.
The DRT 25C dynamic reference sensor is a product innovation from Leuze. Thanks to its intelligent CAT technology, it reliably detects flat to spherical products, transparent to high-gloss foils as well as products with irregular shapes and contours.
Your benefits
Reliable object detection and reduced downtime ensure high machine productivity, even with challenging shapes and surfaces
When changing products or packaging materials, no adjustments to the sensor are required, reducing setup time and increasing production
l The sensor can be set up quickly and easily by automatically memorizing the belt surface using the teach button, while only one common mounting position is required for all objects
l Reliable operation even when the conveyor belt is dirty and vibrating
IO-Link for easy integration of additional functions into the machine control, such as alarm messages in the event of excessive contamination, counters built into the sensor or locking of the teach button
The sensors must detect various products and films on the conveyor belts of packaging machines (HFFS, FS, Thermoform and VFFS) in a fail-safe manner. Furthermore, they must continue to work without additional settings when changing to new products. The optical sensors that perform these tasks are usually reflective sensors with foreground suppression. However, this technology has its drawbacks, especially when detecting flat, shiny or transparent objects.
On the other hand, the innovative detection method of the DRT 25C works with the Contrast Adaptive Teaching Technology, or CAT for short, where the conveyor belt is used as a reference instead of the product. In this way, the dynamic reference sensor identifies any object as a "deviation" from the belt surface. This makes the detection unaffected by the surface characteristics of the product, such as color, gloss and transparency, which most reflective sensors have problems dealing with.
Highlights
Better reflectance sensors
Regardless of the shape of the product and its packaging, the DRT 25C reliably detects the leading edge of the object with its three light beams, thus ensuring stable detection without machine downtime. Three light spots reliably detect items with openings, such as biscuit rings, without requiring all three light spots to fall on the inspection object.
From transparent to highly reflective
The referencing technology reliably detects differently colored and transparent packaging as "deviating" from the belt surface. This means that even machines that process a large number of different packaging materials only need to be equipped with one type of sensor.
No setup time required when changing products
During the first setup, the belt surface is set as the reference surface by pressing the teach button. This setting does not need to be adjusted after changing products, as the reference value does not change. In addition, the sensor's mounting position and alignment do not need to change for different detected items. This means that almost no time is spent on setting the sensor parameters when changing the detected items.
Unique CAT Technology
The DRT 25C uses the belt surface as a dynamic reference surface when detecting objects. To this end, the surface characteristics of the conveyor belt can be memorized using the teach button. The sensor then detects all objects that do not conform to the conveyor belt surface. The DRT 25C therefore works independently of the state of the object, making it more stable than classic reflective sensors. The contrast-adaptive teach technology even compensates for dirt on the conveyor.
application
Detecting products on the conveyor belt of primary packaging machines
Require:
The leading edge of the product on the conveyor must be reliably detected in order to control jam distances and seams. The sensor must also reliably detect products with irregular geometries (from very flat to tall objects) to prevent machine stops due to false detections. The sensor should be easy to install for all products.
solution:
The DRT 25C reliably detects small, flat, spherical products - even products with irregular shapes and contours. This means that the machine only needs to be equipped with one sensor, regardless of the application. The DRT 25C is also easy to set up thanks to the one-touch teach function.
Identifying deep-drawn pallets
Require:
For example, after the products have been loaded into deep-drawn pallets, the front edge must be reliably detected from above, whether in single-lane or multi-lane machines. Pallets of varying heights can present challenges for the sensor systems used.
solution:
The DRT 25C dynamic reference sensor is referenced to the conveyor belt and can thus reliably detect the leading edge of objects on the conveyor belt - regardless of the color or height of the product. The light spots arranged crosswise with respect to the conveying direction can also detect products with gaps.
Detecting products on the conveyor belt of secondary packaging machines
Require:
For smooth control of the jam, packages made of different materials and with a variety of surfaces must be reliably detected from the front edge. When changing products or packaging materials, no settings or adjustments of the sensors are necessary.
solution:
The unique technology of the dynamic reference sensor DRT 25C uses the belt surface as reference. This makes the detection independent of the surface properties of the material used, such as color, gloss and transparency. After changing products, no setup work is required on the sensor.
Identify the package
Require:
If bottles and cans are shrink-wrapped into packages using film, they must also be identified on multi-lane conveyor lines. Different types of packages, such as those using transparent films or films with different prints, must be reliably identified.
solution:
The DRT25C.R pack sensor uses the conveyor surface as reference. This allows it to reliably detect all types of packs. Therefore, there is no need to adjust the sensor when changing products.

Optical sensors use light in various forms to perform detection tasks. For all applications that can be solved with optics, we offer a range of reliable and efficient sensor solutions. The detection of objects of different surfaces, sizes and colors requires different functional principles, such as through-beam sensors, retro-reflective photoelectric sensors or reflective sensors. Usually, all different operating principles are included in one series (large and small sizes). Universal series can also provide extended variants and other useful functions.
